Say what you want about Lady Gaga. The woman can paint a picture with words.
Selected Lyrics from "Monster" - by Lady Gaga (2009)
"Look at him
Look at me
That boy is bad
And honestly
He’s a wolf in disguise
But I can’t stop staring in those evil eyes
I asked my girlfriend if she’d seen you round before
She mumbled something while we got down on the floor baby
We might’ve fucked not really sure, don’t quite recall
But something tells me that I’ve seen him, yeah before
That boy is a monster"
"He licked his lips
Said to me
'Girl you look good enough to eat'
Put his arms around me
Said 'Boy now get your paws right off me'"
"I wanna Just Dance
But he took me home instead
Uh oh! There was a monster in my bed
We french kissed on a subway train
He tore my clothes right off
He ate my heart and then he ate my brain
That boy is a monster"
That sounds to me like an evening with a gentleman werewolf. I wonder if the second date was as eventful as the first.
Is this a musical masterpiece? That's debatable, but I like it.
What song helps you get into a writing frame of mind?

Personally, I listen to Enya when writing. I find I prefer no lyrics or foreign lyrics. Do you find the lyrics get in your way?
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on avoiding lyrics when writing.
ReplyDeleteFor my day job/career outside of writing, I spend about an hour in the car each day. Most of my brainstorming takes place on the drive. I'll listen to something that sparks my interest, but my favorite for inspiration is Midnight Syndicate. They make gothic instrumental soundtracks dripping with horror effects and hypnotic melodies.
As for when I actually write, I need as close to silence as I can get. The voices in my noggin don't talk loud enough to compete with the TV. ;)
i like two steps from hell music the sheer epicness of thier music lets my imagination go crazy also a personal favourite the killing joke-the death and resurrection show
